Internet Bankruptcy
I was off work for the week before Xmas. This—as I normally do most of my feed reading at work—combined with the holidays and my shockingly fast descent into World of Warcraft addiction* left me behind on both my feeds and the tumblrs I follow. I have 3000+ unread items in Bloglines and haven’t even seen my Tumblr dashboard in a week and a half, which likely translates to hundreds of unread pages. Even Rod’s helpful Endless Dashboard script or the AutoPagerize script couldn’t help me catch up with all of it.
So today I am declaring Internet Bankruptcy. I am not even going to try to catch back up, save for a few blogs, feeds, and such from people I know or at least have had some level of contact with. I am going to mark everything as read and start again anew today on my Tumblr Dashboard. I am even 97.635% sure that I am going to delete everything in my stuffed-to-the-gills ‘to blog’, ‘to read’, and ‘to watch’ folders.
Even though I am quite anal about keeping up with the things I am subscribed to and feel a degree of guilt when I can’t, this declaration is quite liberating. Funny that.
