a garden of varied delights

Dear Internet/Tumblersphere/Blogosphere/LazyWeb,

My contract with Sprint is up and I am considering making a change. Specifically, I am considering switching to at&t and getting an iPhone. But, every time I get myself convinced one way or another, some idea will push me back over the line to the other side:

“I can use the real internet anywhere!”
“But I would have to sign a contract with the evil at&t!”
“I can take movies and music with me on my phone!”
“But I already have an iPod, and I don’t really have much in the way of opportunity—a long daily commute on a bus for instance—to watch movies on the go.”
“I can finally have a phone that will sync with my Mac!”
“I can get programs to sync a different phone with my Mac without having to spend $400 on a phone”
“It’ll be like I have a full email client in my pocket! And I have a semi-real keyboard to type and send text messages on!”
“But I don’t do that much with email, and most of my friends are Luddites who don’t do text messaging.”
“I won’t be with Sprint anymore! Sprint sucks so hard!”
“Well, that’s true, Sprint does suck.”

I’m sure I could use Google and find dozens of glowing reviews and dozens of equally vicious rants, but I find the signal to noise ratio in searches of that kind to be heavily weighted towards noise, even moreso than the noise already present in my mind.

So this is what I ask of you, Internet: if you have a concise, well-reasoned argument that you think will push me definitively in one direction or the other, please send it to me. You can either reblog this post (if you are a Tumblr user) or you can send me an email at jay at jayprickett dot com.

Thank you in advance,

J.
